Released in 1967, this was the second studio album from Texas psychedelic pioneers. A truly groundbreaking record, it didn’t just help define psychedelic rock—it also foreshadowed punk a decade later and even echoed into the ’90s indie-dance world, notably through Primal Scream’s cover of “Slip Inside This House” on their classic Screamadelica LP.

First issued in November 1967, copies scarcely made it beyond Texas, making original pressings not only costly but notoriously difficult to find in clean condition—even fifty years ago.

That scarcity is exactly why this reissue has been produced with painstaking care: to create a facsimile edition that faithfully mirrors the original stereo release as issued by International Artists Recording Corp.

If Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators was the first true psychedelic album, many critics agree the band outdid themselves here, delivering what is widely regarded as the definitive masterpiece of the genre.

To ensure authenticity, 96kHz/24-bit transfers were taken from both an original LP pressing and a mixed master tape. When aligned, the audio matched—confirming the tape as the original cutting master. From tape to lacquer, the process was kept to an absolute minimum, with no rebalancing or EQ applied. A half-speed master was then cut at Abbey Road Studios, and a test pressing was dubbed using the same method, with dynamic range compared directly against the original. The result: a pressing that actually improves on the sound of the first edition.
