Pancake came from Winnenden near Stuttgart. They emerged from their psychedelic predecessor Nyrvana Pancake in 1974, playing now progressive rock with a clear symphonic touch. They released three LPs: "Roxy elephant" in 1975, "Out of the ashes" in 1977, and "No illusions" in 1979.

The CD edition of "Out of the ashes" contains one bonus track, recorded live in 1978 in co- operation with the highly talented bassist Klaus Scharff, who had come from Siddhartha (LP "Weltschmerz" from 1975). One of the 2 guitars in their first album has been replaced by keebords in this one.
