"RA" signaled the start of a new chapter for Eloy, Germany’s most successful art and progressive rock band. With the previous lineup having entirely dissolved, founding member Frank Bornemann—still full of creative drive—continued as the group’s vocalist, guitarist, primary songwriter, and producer, determined to carry on Eloy’s legacy.

He eventually teamed up with keyboardist Michael Gerlach, a like-minded collaborator who shared Bornemann’s musical vision. Gerlach’s sophisticated setup allowed him to craft rich soundscapes that, when combined with guitar and vocals, resulted in distinctive and atmospheric compositions.

Thematically, RA explored issues that, in hindsight, seem almost prophetic—touching on ecological and societal concerns that have only grown more pressing. Reflecting on the album today, Bornemann notes that even then, he sensed humanity was approaching a critical turning point—one whose consequences, though unclear at the time, would inevitably reshape life as we know it.

Though the album’s concept occasionally stretches beyond contemporary reality, its message remains compelling, and the music stands out as unmistakably Eloy.
