In 1969 Phil Ridgway and Jeff Vinter played in The Gas, which was an experimental psychedelic group. They started writing their own songs and soon they became a folk duo. When they got to record some of their songs in a friend's studio, they gathered some more musicians friens, and hence HAVENSTREET was born.
In the early-mid 70s HAVENSTREET recorded a couple of albums, cassettes of which were given to friends and relatives.
In 1977 they made a 250 pieces private release of their album END OF THE LINE. This was a collection of English songs with evocative, literate lyrics and a stunning progressive folk-rock sound. It featured one of the earliest known tributes to Syd Barrett on the song When the madcap meets the world .
