The Last Word

Around Christmastime 1968, in the central Illinois prairie town of Pekin, a tiny independent record label was born. Its proprietor Chuck Perrin christened it Webster's Last Word and released the bewitching collection offolky recordings contained herein, in the form of two privately pressed LPs. That interesting but sparse description can in no way prepare you for the music of brother/sister duo Chuck and Mary. An ethereal, eerie, spooky sound seemingly from another world with a startlingly contemporary atmosphere, many people who've heard this are convinced it's a new band! Almost the definition of 'weird folk", the sound of Chuck and Mary will captivate you as it did their audiences then, including future Nirvana engineer Andy Wallace (who played bass on these recordings) and Karen Carpenter, whose heartfelt fan letters Chuck still treasures!
