Released in 1966, this was the debut album from Texas psychedelic pioneers, featuring the hit singles “You’re Gonna Miss Me” and “Reverberation.”
A true game-changer, the record didn’t just help define psychedelic rock—it also paved the way for punk a decade later, influencing artists from Led Zeppelin to The Cramps. First issued in November 1966, it has only grown in stature and is now widely recognised around the world as the first bona fide psychedelic rock album.
This release is a facsimile edition of the original mono mix, faithfully recreating what was pressed in 1966. It captures the authentic sound—and transformative impact—of The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators.
The mono edition is especially prized for its bold, uncompromising, solid-sounding mix. Extraordinary care has gone into both the reissue and the digitisation process to ensure every nuance is preserved. Multiple 96kHz/24-bit passes were made using a valve signal at minus ten decibels to reduce turntable rumble and identify the best possible transfer. No rebalancing or EQ was applied. A half-speed master was then cut at AIR Mastering, followed by a test pressing dubbed using the same method, with dynamic range compared directly to the original. The result: a pressing that sounds even better than the first edition.
