1971–72 collects studio recordings made by T2 after the departure of guitarist Keith Cross and bassist Bernard Jinks from the group’s celebrated original line-up. Drummer, singer and principal songwriter Peter Dunton continued the band with guitarist Andrew Bown and bassist John Weir, developing a powerful sound that retained the intensity of It’ll All Work Out In Boomland while moving towards more concise songwriting.

The recordings combine hard progressive rock, psychedelia, blues and early heavy metal. Dunton’s urgent vocals and forceful drumming remain at the centre of the music, supported by Bown’s distorted electric guitar and Weir’s flexible bass playing. Several tracks retain the extended instrumental interplay associated with T2’s debut, while others reveal a more direct and melodic approach.

“In Time” opens with acoustic guitar before expanding into a heavy electric arrangement. “Looking Back” and “Questions & Answers” move between reflective vocal passages and powerful guitar-led sections, while the brief “Seventy-Two” provides an atmospheric conclusion to the first side.

“The Clown” combines a memorable melody with an unsettling lyrical mood. Original T2 bassist Bernard Jinks and Irish blues guitarist Will Killeen appear on “The Gambler,” while Andrew Keeling contributes flute to “Closing Your Eyes.” “Into The Red” and the extended instrumental “PDQ” complete the album with dense guitar, energetic drumming and the uncompromising underground sound that made T2 one of Britain’s most distinctive early progressive hard-rock groups.

Recorded during 1971 and 1972 but left unreleased at the time, this material documents a largely overlooked chapter in T2’s history. The Guerssen edition is housed in a sturdy cardboard sleeve and includes an illustrated insert with historical liner notes and photographs. The album is dedicated to Peter Dunton.
