There was no substitute for the sound Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett were putting out at the end of the ‘60s; steeped in the Stax soul sound (Delaney first recorded at the label), the duo’s recordings set the scene for the gospel-tinged, southern rock sound that became so popular in the ‘70s, and attracted an incredible group of musicians to play in the band. And this 1969 record, their only release for Elektra, was no exception; co-produced by Leon Russell, it featured Rita Coolidge, Jim Keltner and future Derek & the Dominos members Carl Radle and Bobby Whitlock (Eric Clapton was the next to join the fold, on Delaney & Bonnie’s next record, Delaney & Bonnie & Friends).
