WARHORSE: Red Sea (Deluxe Official LP)

Red Sea is the second and final album by Warhorse, the British hard rock band formed by former Deep Purple bassist Nick Simper. Originally released on Vertigo in 1972, the album keeps the heavy organ-and-guitar sound of the debut but pushes it into a tighter, darker and more forceful direction. With Ashley Holt’s powerful vocals, Pete Parks’ guitar and Frank Wilson’s keyboards, the record has the weight of early-70s hard rock while still carrying a strong progressive edge.

The title track opens the album with direct heavy-rock impact, while Back In Time, Sybilla and the long instrumental Mouthpiece show the band stretching into more dramatic and extended territory. Their version of I (Who Have Nothing) closes the record with a soul standard transformed into a heavy, theatrical Warhorse performance.
