Originally released in 1971, the Edgar Broughton Band’s self-titled third album is often known as the “Meat Album” because of its striking Hipgnosis-designed cover. The record expanded the group’s heavy psychedelic and blues-rock foundations with folk, country and orchestral elements, creating one of the most varied albums in their catalogue.

“Evening Over Rooftops” opens with acoustic guitar and reflective vocals before strings and choral harmonies broaden the arrangement. “The Birth,” “Poppy” and “Don’t Even Know Which Day It Is” move between eccentric psychedelic rock, direct guitar-driven passages and the group’s characteristically forceful vocal delivery.

The second side begins with the compact “House of Turnabout” before moving into the extended “Madhatter.” “Getting Hard / What Is a Woman For?” develops through contrasting progressive sections, prominent keyboards and dramatic changes in intensity, while “Thinking of You” introduces mandolin into a gentler acoustic setting.

The album closes with the two-part “For Doctor Spock,” combining heavy guitar, changing rhythms and the band’s politically charged outlook. This Timeless edition presents the complete original album on 180-gram vinyl in a reproduction gatefold sleeve.
