Ellison is a raw and powerful document from Montréal’s early underground hard-rock scene. Originally issued in Canada during the early 1970s, the group’s sole album has developed a strong reputation among collectors of heavy psychedelia, proto-metal and private-press hard rock.

The band emerged from Québec’s late-1960s psychedelic circuit, bringing together vocalist and guitarist Vincent Marandola, bassist Richard Arcand, guitarist Christian Vaeillant and drummer Robert Cager. After building a following through frequent appearances around Montréal and the surrounding region, Ellison entered the studio to record the seven tracks that became their only LP.

Heavy, distorted guitars dominate the album, supported by forceful vocals, thick bass lines and a loose but aggressive rhythmic attack. “Unchanged World” opens with a direct blast of primitive hard rock, while “Seal a Beam Bow” and “Winter Slutch” move between blues-based riffs and darker psychedelic passages.

The second side becomes increasingly atmospheric. “Strawberry Rain” combines a heavy guitar sound with a more spacious, melancholic mood, while the extended “Untruth Story” develops through slow-building riffs and raw lead guitar. The closing “Freedom” brings the album to a concise and energetic conclusion.

Ellison’s stripped-down production and uncompromising performances place the group alongside such cult heavy-rock names as Elias Hulk, Jerusalem, Black Sabbath and early Sir Lord Baltimore. This Guerssen edition presents the complete album with newly remastered sound, original artwork and an illustrated insert.
