Originally released in 1971, the sole album by Alabama group Felt is a powerful meeting of psychedelic rock, progressive arrangements and blues-based hard rock. Myke Jackson’s vocals and guitar are joined by Stan Lee’s lead guitar, Allan Dalrymple’s keyboards, Tommy Gilstrap’s bass and Mike Neel’s drums.

“Look at the Sun” opens the album in a melodic, slightly melancholy psychedelic mood, while “Now She’s Gone” develops through shifting rhythms, organ passages and expressive twin-guitar work. “Weepin’ Mama Blues” and “World” bring a heavier blues-rock character without losing the group’s adventurous approach to arrangement.

The second side is dominated by “The Change,” a ten-minute progressive composition that moves through several contrasting sections, from brooding vocals and Hammond organ to intense guitar solos and rapid changes of pace. The closing “Destination” combines psychedelic guitar, jazz-influenced rhythms and atmospheric keyboards, ending an album that has become a highly regarded American underground rarity.
