Originally released in 1971, Hau-RUK captures Xhol performing at the Center in Göttingen during July 1970. Reduced to a quartet after their earlier period as Xhol Caravan, the group developed an open-ended style in which psychedelic rock, free jazz and blues were shaped through long collective improvisations.

“Breit” unfolds slowly around electric organ, tenor saxophone and a deeply hypnotic rhythm section, while “Schaukel” moves into heavier blues-based territory without abandoning the band’s spontaneous approach. The CD adds “Süden Twi Westen,” a substantial studio performance recorded during a brief 1974 reunion, bringing the programme to more than an hour of exploratory German underground music.
