He Moved Through The Fair – The Complete 1960s Recordings presents an extensive survey of the most important period in the career of British guitarist Davy Graham. Across eight CDs, the collection follows his development from the groundbreaking acoustic instrumentals of the early 1960s through his explorations of folk, blues, jazz, Indian, Middle Eastern and North African music.

Graham’s fluid fingerstyle technique, adventurous harmonic ideas and use of alternative tunings had an enormous influence on the generation of British guitarists who followed him. His composition “Angi” became a standard for acoustic players and was subsequently recorded by Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Paul Simon and many others. Graham was also closely associated with the development and popularisation of DADGAD tuning, which became fundamental to modern folk and Celtic guitar playing.

The collection includes the original 3/4 AD recordings, The Guitar Player, Folk, Blues & Beyond, Folk Roots, New Routes with Shirley Collins, Midnight Man, the live After Hours recordings, Large As Life & Twice As Natural, Hat, The Holly Kaleidoscope and Godington Boundary. Additional live recordings and five previously unreleased early performances provide a broader picture of Graham’s extraordinary range and restless musical imagination.

Moving freely between traditional songs, jazz standards, blues, ragas, Beatles compositions and his own original material, these recordings demonstrate why Graham occupies such an important position in the history of British acoustic music. The clamshell box is accompanied by detailed documentation, including an extensive essay, original sleeve notes and a rare interview with Graham.
