Sayonara, baby! The Hot Shots, like recent Japanese combos Teengenerate and the 5,6,7,8's, have staked out a corner of the rock 'n' roll universe and made it totally their own. Jubilee, their U.S. debut—produced by NRBQ founding father Terry Adams—may recall the Brylcreem-and-drainpipe-trousers days of Gene Vincent. But, says Adams, "These guys are much more than a rockabilly band. They're all over the map! They write amazing originals, then they'll car-jack cover tunes and make 'em all their own. They've got their own sound," adds Adams, citing smatterings of roadhouse jazz and alt-country lurking in the Hot Shots' DNA. "Lovie Lovie," the sputtering Japanese single that first caught Adams' ear, is also included here as a bonus track. In fact, Adams is so hot for the Hot Shots, they'll be supporting NRBQ this fall, rambling together down that lost rock 'n' roll highway of one-night stands.
