Ralf And Florian is Kraftwerk’s third album, originally released on Philips in 1973, and it stands at the fascinating midpoint between the group’s early Krautrock experimentation and the electronic clarity of Autobahn. The music is still organic and exploratory, with flute, guitar, piano and percussion textures remaining in the picture, but the synthesizers, rhythm machines and miniature electronic patterns are now much closer to the Kraftwerk sound that would soon become unmistakable.

The album has a softer, more atmospheric character than the first two Kraftwerk records, moving from the playful electronic motion of Elektrisches Roulette and the glassy pulse of Kristallo to the gentle mechanical swing of Tanzmusik and the long, dreamlike Ananas Symphonie. This LP edition presents one of the group’s most important pre-Autobahn recordings in its original six-track form.
