THORS HAMMER: Thors Hammer (CD)

Thors Hammer were a Danish progressive rock group from Copenhagen, and their only album is one of the major rarities of the Scandinavian underground scene. Originally released in 1971, the record combines jazzy progressive rock, psychedelic atmosphere and tighter, more arranged passages, with saxophone, guitar, keyboards and English vocals giving the music a distinctive early-70s Danish character.

The album is short but highly individual, opening with the driving Mexico before moving into the extended Not Worth Saying, where the band stretch out into heavier and more exploratory territory. The second half adds the bluesier Blind Gypsy Woman, the long Believe In What You Want and the closing Evasive Dreams Beyond. This Thors Hammer CD edition was the first official CD release and includes a 32-page booklet.
