Music On Vinyl has already released two classic Sade albums; 1992's Love Deluxe and Lovers Rock from 2000, so it only makes sense to release their latest album Soldier Of Love from 2010.
This album is again filled with minimal arrangements that encapsulate Sade Adu's fragile singing, and yet there is a strength that shines through her voice that we haven't seen from her for a while. The album is filled with love, hurt, and abandonment, but there is an anger and a defiance here that we haven't seen before. Sade's lyrics are, as ever, poetic, demand our attention, and are a lot darker than we're used to.
This was Sade's first album with original work in 10 years, and was much anticipated by press and public alike. Luckily for us, in the words of fellow Neo-Soul singer Maxwell: "it's so monolithic it'll shake you in your shoes!"
