asgard: trivialities

Asgard were a proto-progressive rock trio from Coventry, UK. Initially drawing inspiration from early Pink Floyd and The Velvet Underground, they gradually developed a more experimental sound of their own. Their distinctive style soon attracted the attention of legendary DJ and tastemaker John Peel, who had intended to sign them to his Dandelion Records label. However, financial difficulties ultimately led to the label’s collapse before the deal could be finalized.

In early 1970, Asgard recorded three tracks onto a one-sided 12” acetate—now the only known surviving recordings of the band. The sole acetate had been stored in the bassist’s garage since the 1970s and was in poor condition, with sections of the lacquer having flaked off and painstakingly reattached. Fortunately, it has now been carefully restored for this archival release by Rise Above Relics.
