Archival live CD with one bonus track and 32-page booklet

Wiesbaden 1972 captures Embryo in concert at the Wartburg Auditorium on 17 December 1972, during a period when the Munich group’s progressive jazz-rock was becoming increasingly open to African, Middle Eastern and other non-Western influences. Guitar, saz, electric piano, marimba and percussion drive a fluid performance that frequently moves beyond fixed song structures into expansive collective improvisation.

The seven Embryo pieces develop as a continuous musical journey, ranging from the marimba-and-saz introduction of “Ouverture Marimbasaz” to the extended “Pygmäen Überall / Back From Africa,” featuring guest soprano saxophonist Hansi Fischer. The CD also includes “Clockwork Blue,” recorded by the related group Aus Dem Nichts during its appearance at the same concert, and comes with a detailed 32-page booklet.
